Jaime Plazas Tuttle is an Assistant Professor and holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Environmental Engineering and Water Resources from the University of Texas at Austin (UT, USA, 2017). He also holds an M.S. in Environmental Engineering in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC, USA, 2012), an M.S. in Desert Studies with an emphasis on Water Resources Management from Ben Gurion University (BGU, Israel, 2004), and a Civil Engineering degree from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (PUJ, Colombia, 2000). His doctoral research focused on an innovative water disinfection system, the first of its kind, which combines microwaves to irradiate a nano-structure suspended in water. His research interests span a wide range of areas, including: ⦁ Use of nanomaterials for water treatment and disinfection: Developing advanced techniques to improve water quality through the use of nanotechnology. ⦁ Engineering applications of environmental nanotechnology: Exploring how nanotechnology can be applied to effective environmental solutions. ⦁ Social projects to improve quality of life: Implementing initiatives that benefit underprivileged communities through innovative technologies. ⦁ Alternative technologies for sustainable development: Promoting sustainable solutions that support ecological and economic development. ⦁ Study and mitigation of microplastics in water: Investigating the presence and removal of microplastics in water sources, treatment plants, and distribution systems. ⦁ In-line water disinfection using cavitation: Applying cavitation techniques for efficient and safe water disinfection. With a solid academic background and a passion for applied research, Jaime is dedicated to advancing the field of environmental engineering and making significant contributions to the development of sustainable technologies and innovative water treatment solutions.
