Silvia Caro is a Civil Engineer with a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) and a PhD in Road Infrastructure from Texas A&M University. She is currently the Vice-President for Academic Affairs of Universidad de los Andes and a full professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She is a founding member of the Academy of Pavement Science and Engineering (APSE), of which she was vice-president and president. She is the chair of the Materials section of the Transportation Infrastructure Group of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the United States (National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine) in charge of coordinating the activities of 9 technical committees, former chair of the technical committee "Asphalt mixture evaluation of performance" of the same organization, associate editor of the journals Road Materials and Pavement Design and Materials in Civil Engineering, and member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Pavement Engineering and Construction and Building Materials. She is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and of two of its technical committees. His areas of work include advanced experimental characterization and computational modeling of the behavior and deterioration of asphalt mixtures and pavement structures, with special emphasis on environmental sustainability issues. Dr. Caro has lead and participated in numerous research and consulting projects funded by public agencies and private companies at national and international level. As a result of her work, she has published more than 60 articles in international indexed journals and 80 articles in peer-reviewed academic events. In addition, she has made more than 65 special presentations for international conferences.
