Urban Water and Climate Resilience: Connecting Models, Design, and Living Laboratories
Urban areas are increasingly exposed to compound climate risks, including pluvial flooding, thermal stress, and the fragmentation of water governance. Although significant advances have been made in hydrodynamic modeling, climate-responsive urban design, and nature-based urban drainage, critical gaps persist between scientific knowledge and its translation into policy and planning practice. Institutional settings such as university campuses offer valuable opportunities to prototype and test integrated solutions at a scale that is legible to governance actors.
This seminar convenes scholars from Switzerland, Brazil, and Colombia to examine how advanced flood modeling, climate-responsive urban design, living laboratory experimentation, and water governance can be integrated into actionable and place-sensitive urban climate adaptation strategies — with particular relevance for Latin American cities.
