Job description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Universidad de los Andes (Uniandes), in Bogotá, Colombia, invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position. We seek an engineer able to teach and conduct research in the broad fields of hydraulics, hydrology, and water resources in urban environments, ideally with knowledge on geographic information systems.

 

Expected qualifications

A doctoral degree is required for this position; however, consideration will be given to applicants that are currently pursuing their doctoral degree and will complete it shortly. Applicants must have proven ability in carrying out scientific and applied research projects. This includes the ability to develop and sustain an active research program with external funding. Teaching ability and commitment to teaching are essential. Spanish is not essential for the application, but it will be expected as a teaching language after the first year.

Screening and recruiting schedule:

· June 24th, 2022; selected candidates will be invited to make oral presentations in front of the department committee. Candidates are expected to discuss their backgrounds and to present their academic and research work proposals.

Interested candidates must have proven ability in carrying out scientific and applied research projects, such as the ability to develop and sustain an active research program with external funding. This implies candidates should preferably possess the necessary skills to obtain said funding. Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in a related discipline and must also have exemplary records of achievements in research as doctoral student, post-doctoral student, assistant professor, junior professor, or university researcher. Teaching ability and commitment to teaching are essential. Candidates should also have very good teaching skills and they are expected to be completely fluent in English. Spanish is not essential for the application, but it will be expected as teaching language after the first year.

  • Built Environment Sustainability
  • Construction Management and Innovation
  • Construction Health and Safety Systems
  • Lean Construction and Value Management
  • Management of Infrastructure Systems, Life-Cycle Costing, and Stochastic Simulation
  • Operations Research (cost and schedule), Productivity and Quality
  • Project Delivery, Contracting, and Procurement Systems
  • Uncertainty, Risk Management, and Decision-Making
  • Virtual Design and Construction, Building Information Modeling, and Integrated Project Delivery.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit three letters of recommendation, and will be invited to deliver a lecture in Bogota as well as having face-to-face interviews with faculty.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Universidad de los Andes, Colombia invites nominations and applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position beginning November 2022. The position is open for candidates interested in research topics related (but not restricted) to: structural engineering; urban resilience and adaptable systems; innovative materials and structural systems; systems health monitoring (SHM); applied statistics, probability and data analytics; and modelling and managing risks due to extreme events. Multidisciplinary research topics are preferred.

 

The department seeks an individual who will complement and strengthen our outstanding faculty. The position requires a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and institutional service. The successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Hold an earned doctorate in Engineering. Applications will be considered provided the candidate can document a degree completion date before December 2022.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering, as well as, courses in urban infrastructure systems. Professional registration is encouraged.
  • Have ability in carrying out scientific and applied research projects, such as the ability to develop and sustain an active research program with external funding.
  • Disseminate the results of their research.
  • Show a willingness and ability to employ technology in teaching.
  • Contribute to the development and strengthening of the new program on Urban Systems.
  • Contribute to the excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and institutional service.
  • Participate in departmental and school committees, advise students and contribute to student recruitment and retention.
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate (both master and doctoral) students in their capstone projects or dissertations.
  • Have a commitment to lifelong learning by means of professional development, applied research, publication and/or engineering practice.
  • Be able and willing to collaborate with other department faculty and other academic units on campus, including student organizations.
